Such Things Only Happen in Movies is a story of growth and self-discovery that tells the story of a young woman who is in the grip of romantic cliches while searching for the love of her life.

Pınar Göktaş
In this entertaining narrative, Pınar Göktaş describes the search for love and discovery of sexuality of a girl who is fascinated by the idea of "perfect harmony" in romance films and decides to find the "love of her life." She draws on the romantic relationships she had throughout her childhood and adolescence, substantiating her personal story with fictional narratives from time to time.
Spanning the late nineties and early 2000s, the story takes the audience through the romantic films of that period, vintage objects and the hits of pop star Tarkan. The piece is also a beautiful thank you letter to Tarkan.
"Such Things Only Happen in Movies" is the result of Şule Ateş's research to update our storytelling tradition.
The performance, which director Şule Ateş and actress Pınar Göktaş developed together during the rehearsal process with a joint creation, challenges the assumptions about love, relationships and gender roles and he does it with a lot of laughter.
