Celebrations bring people together! - Open Society Day
On June 21, people across Germany are invited to come together for a conversation – in honor of Open Society Day. Radio Connection and the Marzahn-Hellersdorf neighborhood group of Omas gegen Rechts (Grandmas Against the Right) will organize the event at the Mark Twain District Central Library and, with the help of some playful stimuli, will transform the library into a place for encounters and exchange.
Since 2017, the day of action has brought together people committed to an open, diverse, and democratic society. The goal is to promote political participation, strengthen dialogue, and thus contribute to living democracy.
Radio Connection connects people with and without migration or refugee experience. The 15-person team from seven countries produces a weekly multilingual radio program, and in their contributions, they address topics such as arriving in Berlin, festivals and music, finding housing, and racism.
The organization Omas gegen Rechts (Grandmas Against the Right) is a civil society initiative with over 30,000 members in 200 regional groups. It works non-partisan against discrimination, stigmatization, hate, and incitement – with the goal of actively shaping our society.
At various stations, we invite our visitors to engage in conversation, discuss, and learn from one another. This can include both in-depth and serious discussions, but there will also be room for lighter topics. The main purpose of the Open Society Day is to come together and engage in conversation.
Weather permitting, the event will take place in the courtyard; if it rains, it will take place in the art library. Registration is not required.
