On Family Sunday, when admission is free, museum curator Randy-Noreen Rathenow will introduce the exhibition format and present the Steglitz reading box.

The museologist will provide information on site about the ‘Object of the Month’ – a presentation in the salon of the Ephraim-Palais Museum, which is open to curious visitors free of charge on all days when the museum is open.

The changing objects on display there present new acquisitions, provide insights into projects of the Stadtmuseum Berlin or tell stories from Berlin's past.

The ‘Steglitzer Lesekasten’ shows how schoolchildren were taught to read and write around 100 years ago and what scripts were used. This historical teaching aid was acquired by the Berlin City Museum in 2024 and restored in 2025.

On Family Sunday, you can learn more about this object from Randy-Noreen Rathenow and gain an insight into the work of the collection.
