Researched by restorers
For the anniversary year "250 years of Caspar David Friedrich", his paintings in the collection of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg were examined using art technology.
The results underpin the current state of knowledge about his working methods and provide new insights into his handling of drawing templates and his special use of color.
A three-part lecture will show how the artist strove for an authentic representation of what he had seen. To do this, he obviously made suitable enlargements of his nature studies so that he could use them directly in the painting and probably also used cardboard, as the findings suggest.
He also achieved lifelike reproductions and special color effects through a finely tuned pigment palette in which smalt and cobalt blue played a special role.
Speakers: Mechthild Most, Jens Bartoll, Eva Wenders de Calisse (Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg)
Participation is free of charge.
The lecture will take place online. Please log in at the time of the event.
