The Mauthausen Cantata is a song cycle by Mikis Theodorakis, based on texts by the poet Iakovos Kambanellis, a Greek survivor of the Mauthausen concentration camp, that tells the story of the love affair between a young Greek prisoner and his Jewish lover amidst the horrors.

In 1988, the ballad was performed in Mauthausen in the presence of tens of thousands of prisoners and their families from all over the world, sung by Maria Farandouri in Greek, Elinor Moav in Hebrew, and Gisela May in German.

Tonight you will hear Andrea Chudak, accompanied by Symeon Ioannidis on the piano. The two will also devote themselves to the "unknown" Kurt Weill, who, alongside Bertolt Brecht, became one of the leading composers of German theater music and, in American exile, one of the greats on Broadway. In addition to his early songs, the "Klops Song" and "Berlin in Light" are also not to be missed.
