biegungen im ausland

Bassist Martina Berther has been researching and expanding the sonic potential of her instrument for years. As part of her live practice, the Zurich based musician works with pedals, preparations and unconventional playing techniques. From gentle drones to rhythmic noise to lyrical sounds, Berther explores the musical richness of the electric bass.

She always oscillates between the abstract and the concrete, the physical. Her current solo album “Bass Works: As I Venture Into” was released in April 2024. In addition to her work as a solo musician, Martina Berther tours with her bands Ester Poly and AUL as well as with the singer Sophie Hunger. She also writes music for film, theater and installations.

It was two innovative forces from the Berlin improvisation scene, Andrea Neumann and Sabine Ercklentz, who founded the group Contagious together with the celebrated DJ Mieko Suzuki. Contagious are not just a trio, they are an organism. Inside piano, turntables, trumpet and the pulse of various effects processors are the material with which the three musicians create something new and exciting.

Neumann, Ercklentz and Suzuki form a unit that is constantly moving and continually developing. The constant tension between the three, between their actions and reactions, can be felt every second of their live concerts. An intensive dialogue with the aim of merging tonal and artistic opposites.
