Mark Lammert - painter, draughtsman, graphic artist and stage designer - is one of the outstanding artistic personalities of his generation. His work contains diverse philosophical, political and historical references, which he combines by means of reduction, fragmentation and collage to create images with a high aesthetic impact.

The exhibition is dedicated exclusively to Mark Lammert's unique graphic work and places it in the context of a collection of drawings that were created before and during the French Revolution of 1789 and beyond the 19th century and were acquired by Mark Lammert mainly via the digital platform “ebay”. This creates a tension between original drawings about historical events from the past and the possibilities of reflecting on current events through the medium of drawing. In addition, the value of artistic production and its utilization are questioned.

Mark Lammert, born in Berlin in 1960, studied painting at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee from 1979 to 1986 and was a master student at the Akademie der Künste zu Berlin from 1989 to 1992. In 1993, he designed his first stage space for Heiner Müller's production of “Duell-Traktor-Fazer” and has since appeared regularly as a stage designer. Mark Lammert has been a professor of painting and drawing at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2011. He has been a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin since 2015.
