"History finds the city"

Under this year's motto, Berlin's regional museums want to make the special features of the individual districts visible and bring neighborhood stories directly into the neighborhoods. In addition to city tours, talks, bike tours and audio walks are also on offer. All offers are free of charge.

Saturday, May 17, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the city tour "Everyday life and resistance at the end of the war in Moabit" takes a look at the events of the final months of the war. Who put up resistance in the final days of the war and how did the population react to the approaching end of the war? And what happened in Lehrter Strasse prison during the last days of the war? What did the end of the war mean for the many foreigners who had to perform forced labor in Moabit? Was there a "zero hour" or is it a myth? Participants will explore these and other questions together with historian Trille Schünke-Bettinger.

  • Meeting point: Mathilde-Jacob-Platz 1, 10551 Berlin (in front of Tiergarten Town Hall)
  • Admission: free
  • Registration: not required

Sunday, May 18, 2-4 p.m

The Berlin fashion industry reached its peak in the 1920s with more than 2,700 fashion companies, most of which belonged to Jewish families. The leading companies were Manheimer, Israel and Gerson. The Nazi takeover in January 1933 had considerable consequences for the industry. Many of the companies were expropriated or sold under duress. Many owners had to flee into exile and many others were murdered. On 18 May, you can find out more about "The Jewish textile industry in Berlin" and its traces on Hausvogteiplatz with city guide Nirit Ben-Joseph.

  • Meeting point: Subway entrance Hausvogteiplatz at the "Spiegeldenkmal", 10117 Berlin
  • Admission: free
