Scenic reading about tunnel escapes with music
About forbidden books, belief in the GDR, farewell to friends, interrogation, betrayal and the planned escape
A reading group. During the 1970s, reading groups were formed in many cities in the GDR, in which friends and acquaintances read banned current and classical literature together. However, people here were also not safe from Stasi agents and listening devices. We recreate such a reading group, which at some point is not just about Franz Kafka, but also about house searches, interrogations, looking for ways to escape and farewells, and also about the hope for a better GDR. The staged reading is accompanied and reinforced by music by Wolf Biermann, Gerulf Pannach, Veronika Fischer, Bettina Wegner and others. It takes place in true style in the Berlin underworld not far from the entrance to an escape tunnel.
