The three artists were born in the late 19th century and began studying art in the early 20th century. It is particularly noteworthy that they were able to undergo formal training in the fine arts, a possibility that was hotly debated in their time. It was not until 1919 that women were officially admitted to study at the Berlin State Art Academy.
