Festive concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin

‘Since Bach's Mass in B minor and Beethoven's Missa solemnis, nothing has been written that can compete with Brahms‘ Deutsches Requiem in this field’ - said the influential music writer and critic Eduard Hanslick.

Transcending all denominational boundaries, Brahms created a work that expresses highly impressive feelings of suffering and mourning, of comfort and hope, with a carefully considered selection of texts and a particular sensitivity in the way they are set to music. Music for Karfreitag that reflects this day and at the same time points beyond it.
