Kammerakademie Potsdam, Antonello Manacorda, Lukas Stenrath

Pianist Lukas Sternath and chief conductor Antonello Manacorda present works by Robert Schumann and Béla Bartók. In 2022, the young pianist Lukas Sternath attracted a lot of attention when he won first prize in the ARD music competition and also received seven special prizes, including the audience prize.

Together with chief conductor Antonello Manacorda and the KAP, he will perform Robert Schumann's piano concerto for the first time in Potsdam and Berlin.

Schumann initially called his work for piano and orchestra “Fantasy” before he developed it into a three-movement solo concerto a few years later. Dancing momentum, virtuoso dialogues and delicate cantilenas characterize the music, which appears partly chamber music, partly symphonic. Béla Bartók, a pioneer of his time, influenced an entire generation with his individual tonal language.

His early orchestral music is strongly influenced by Richard Strauss, and the dance scene from “Ariadne” may have been the inspiration for the lively, light character of his second orchestral suite.
