Max Teschemacher & Laura Schulze
kahlschlag* is a grotesque caricature of Eugene Ionesco's anti-play The Bald Singer. The drama paints a tragically comic picture of life in an age when "we can no longer avoid the question of what we are doing here on earth and how we can bear the crushing burden of the material world after we have lost any deeper awareness of our fate."
The people in The Bald Singer have no hunger, no remorse, no longing that they are aware of; they are bored to death. And talk in order to survive.
In the diploma production kahlschlag* the characters are greatly exaggerated and appear to the audience in a surreal comic aesthetic. Virtuoso mask play meets thunderous sound storms, in keeping with Ionesco's motto "The truth of the fictional is superior to the truth of the real."
