The slightly different Christmas concert

Coziness by candlelight, time with loved ones, the smell of freshly baked cookies. The joys of the Christmas season make many a heart beat faster. But what is the origin of all this?

Long before the festival was integrated into the Christian calendar to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Long before the consumer frenzy of today's cities, there were traditions that celebrated this special time of year:
the magical moment of the winter solstice, which falls on December 21 or 22 in the northern hemisphere according to this calendar and heralds the return of light. A time of contemplation, hope, visionary power and inner warmth; of interpersonal connection, love and homely coziness.

This winter program is dedicated to this origin of Christmas and celebrates the astronomical turning point that all people in our hemisphere experience, regardless of religion, culture and way of life. With contemplation, imagination and humor, the view is opened up and listeners are invited to discover their very own meaning and sense of joy in these days.
