The radioeins and Freitag Salon live from the Renaissance Theater

In the summer of 2024, an article was published in Die Zeit entitled: "Me, fighting for Germany? Never!" In it, Ole Nymoen, 27, wrote that he was prepared to fight "for almost nothing" and that he could not do anything with the new "competence in war" that Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had called for.

Anyone who goes into military battle is not defending their own interests, but those of their "rulers." At X, many people resented Nymoen's pacifism, and it triggered a veritable shitstorm. In an interview with the Berliner Zeitung, he defended his stance: "A dirty peace is better than being dead."

Despite the fierce controversy, Nymoen has expanded on his pacifist stance in a book: Why I would never fight for my country, which will be published on March 11, 2025.

What are the consequences for wars like the one in Ukraine when young people refuse to take up arms for "their country"?

Jakob Augstein will discuss this with Ole Nymoen. On April 14, 2025 in the Renaissance Theater and live on radioeins.
