MUSIC IN BRANDENBURG CASTLES E.V. 25 YEARS

“ITALIAN ROMANTICISM” is the motto of this special serenade. String quartets of the Italian Romantic period are hardly known, but contain enchanting music between classical quartets and Italian opera.

It is hardly known that Donizetti, for example, wrote a total of 18 string quartets, taking Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven as his models.

Rossini also wrote a cycle of 5 string quartets early on, witty and virtuoso miniatures. Niccolo Paganini, probably the greatest violin virtuoso, was at home in the salons. His 3 classically influenced string quartets are high points of Italian quartet art.

Puccini wrote his “Chrisanthemi” in 1896 to mark the death of the King of Savoy, as well as 3 minuets as studies for the stage music for his operas. Mozart's first string quartet cycle in the Italian style was written in Milan in 1772.

Four young musicians have come together to form a new string quartet, HAYDNQUARTETT BERLIN. The quartet had its successful premiere on October 12, 2008 in Köpenick Castle. In February 2011, the ensemble made its successful debut in the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna.

The quartet is sponsored by the association "Music in Brandenburg Castles". The quartet has since become a regular guest in the concert halls of Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Salzburg and has developed into one of the outstanding German string quartets.
