Castle courtyard concert
The program includes works by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), which offer a varied sound of the Italian madrigal art of the Renaissance. The collection of Italian madrigals is the composer's only surviving choral literature and is dedicated to his patron Moritz von Hessen.
In it, Schütz masters the technical requirements of Italian five-part vocal art with stylistic skill and impresses with his extraordinary creative ability. He does not limit himself to the usual painting of tone and affect, but develops a tremendous drama within the madrigals, coupled with melodic richness.
For better understanding, the German translation of the texts will be recited beforehand in the concert. The individual madrigals will be performed with variable accompaniment using period instruments.
The performing choir is not the entire Konzertchor Schlachtensee, but the Collegium Vocale Berlin, which consists mainly of members of the concert choir, but performs with a smaller ensemble.
The Konzertchor Schlachtensee is a mixed oratorio choir with a long tradition in Berlin's musical life. The repertoire ranges from choral works from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods to composers of the 20th century. Thomas Hennig has been the choir director since 2021.
