It's going green at the Irish Raceday
On Sunday, 11 May 2025, the Irish Raceday is on the programme at Hoppegarten Racecourse. In keeping with the theme, visitors dressed in green (top + trousers or dress) will receive a free drink of their choice. The first 500 visitors will also receive a green top hat.
The highlight of the race day is the Comer Group International 54th Oleander Race, the most important and valuable race for long-distance specialists in German horse racing. The longest race of the Berlin season lasts three and a half minutes and covers an extreme 3,200 metres - 850 metres of the Hoppegarten straight track, then a full lap of 2,350 metres.
Oleander was the kind of racehorse you could only dream of: fast and easy to ride, uncomplicated and willing to go to the absolute limit. A rock in the surf. He contested a total of 23 races, of which he won 19, sometimes with overwhelming superiority. He won the Grand Prix of Baden three times and his winnings totalled 580,950 marks, which was a lonely record for over 40 years, despite the economic crisis, inflation, war, currency reform and later rising race prices. Oleander was not just a first-class racehorse, he was the idol of German horse racing for decades.
