INTERTWINED

The exhibition, featuring new and previously unseen work, will be on view until March 30. Marking his first exhibition in Berlin in recent years, this event offers a good opportunity to experience Rennt’s work in the city that has long been central to his practice.

With Intertwined, Rennt shifts his focus from queer nightlife to more intimate moments of connection, presenting a series of diptychs that explore closeness, desire, and community.

Spyros Rennt, Intertwined

Intertwined represents a significant evolution in Rennt’s artistic journey. Known for his candid, raw portrayals of Berlin’s queer nightlife, Rennt shifts his focus in this book to subtler expressions of intimacy. From tender embraces in a club to private moments of self-reflection, the imagery transcends explicit sexuality, offering a poignant meditation on the interconnectedness of human experiences.

The creation of Intertwined was a meditative process. Rennt meticulously selected and paired hundreds of photographs laid out across the floor of his Kreuzberg studio, crafting diptychs that resonate with natural clarity and emotional depth. The images invite viewers to explore repeated gestures, mirrored compositions, and thematic echoes that reveal Rennt’s intent with intuitive ease.

This publication also reflects a maturing perspective on queer life in a post- pandemic world. The scenes captured often move away from public nightlife spaces to more intimate, private gatherings, emphasizing a shift in the landscape of queer socialization. The book’s yellow-hued paper was carefully chosen to evoke warmth and closeness, enhancing the sensory experience of its pages.
