Guided tour of the electronic musical instruments in the MIM: from the trautonium to the Mellotron
Immerse yourself in the world of electronic musical instruments - from experimental sounds to the iconic sounds of pop culture!
Do you know Hitchcock's horror classic "The Birds"? The eerie birdcalls were generated with the Mixturtrautonium, one of the most versatile electronic instruments ever. In combination with tape recorders and other sound generators, it offered unlimited possibilities for sound generation in the late 1950s, even before the synthesizer era.
As inconspicuous as the Mellotron may look, this early sample instrument was highly influential in the pop music of the 1970s. It still inspires many prominent musicians today: Paul McCartney played the intro to "Strawberry Fields Forever" on the Mellotron and still owns his original instrument. Genesis and Tangerine Dream also fell under the spell of this instrument.
