Running for cold weather aid
Running for the cold #Heat24 starts in Berlin for the 6th time. On 30 November 2024, the #Heat24 24-hour charity run will enter its next round.
As every year, donations will be collected for the cold relief organisation Berliner Stadtmission and Diakonie Hamburg. Everyone - whether experienced runner or complete beginner, active or supporting - is invited to take part and set a strong example for community and social commitment.
Organised by the KVL Cares initiative, private running groups and numerous supporters, all proceeds - in the form of money and donations in kind - will go to the Berlin City Mission and Diakonie Hamburg. Thanks to this support, the organisations can offer urgently needed help and protection to people living on the streets during the cold season with the Cold Bus in Berlin and the Midnight Bus in Hamburg.
This year, the run will take place exclusively in Berlin. However, thanks to a digital start number, participants from all over Germany can also take part. Participation and catering are free, as the event is fully funded by sponsors.
The starting signal will be given on 30 November at 12 noon on the northern Wittenbergplatz. The event ends 24 hours later, on 1 December at 12 noon.
- 24-hour donation relay race from 30 November, 12:00 noon, to 1 December, 12:00 noon
- Jörn Oltmann, Mayor of Tempelhof-Schöneberg, takes part
- Proceeds go to the Berliner Stadtmission's cold relief organisation and the Diakonie Hamburg midnight bus
- Runners and donors are very welcome!
The route is laid out as a cloverleaf and consists of four laps of six kilometres each. Each lap is run once per hour in a clockwise direction, making a total of six laps, each with four different sections.
Anyone who completes all four laps once will receive a medal in recognition. Donations of 50 euros or more will also be recognised with a medal. The run ends on 1 December at the Berlin City Mission, where all participants are invited to a pasta party - a moment of thanks and celebration.
#Heat24 is a sporting challenge that benefits homeless people and strengthens social cohesion in the city.
Jörn Oltmann, District Mayor of Berlin Tempelhof-Schöneberg, will also be taking on the challenge on 30 November: ‘I'm very happy to be taking part because it's about doing something good for the Stadtmission's cold aid. The Stadtmission does outstanding work in helping the homeless and I am delighted to be actively supporting this important project.’
In the last five years, the running groups have already raised more than 253,000 euros for #Heat24. Last year alone, around 58,000 euros were raised. Runners and donations are still being sought in order to achieve success again this year. Donations in kind are also welcome this year. In Berlin, the #HeatBerlin24 team is accepting hygiene items in their original packaging as well as clean, wearable clothing.
