"Marzahn Concert Talks"
Between 1805 and 1808, the two early Romantic poets Achim von Arnim and Clemens von Brentano published the song collection "Des Knaben Wunderhorn." This collection, comprising over 700 songs, inspired the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler to create various musical settings. His Second, Third, and Fourth Symphonies contain movements with choral and solo vocals, the text of which quotes passages from the "Wunderhornlieder."
Mahler also explicitly composed orchestral and piano songs that are settings of this song cycle. Thus, the symphonies mentioned above are still known today as Mahler's "Wunderhorn Symphonies." In his three-part lecture, Steffen Georgi will discuss these monumental orchestral works.
