Open Monument Day at the Lichtenberg Museum

For Open Monument Day, the Lichtenberg Museum invites you to a guided tour and a workshop from 2 p.m.

The architectural history of Berlin-Lichtenberg is inextricably linked to industrialization. The factory buildings, residential buildings and memorial sites that were built during this period, some of which are now listed buildings, cannot be brought to the museum for Open Monument Day. However, visitors can use historical objects to understand their former function and purpose:

  • Why does the shotgun tower tower over all other residential buildings?
  • What was once on a clinker foundation in the Central Cemetery?
  • And what is a brick made of Portland cement doing in the museum?

The entertaining tour "Contemporary Witnesses of History" gets to the bottom of these questions.

Friends of creative design will also get their money's worth under the motto "From Monument to Memory". In the workshop, photographic images, structures and colors are transferred to paper using gel plates. Layer by layer, they are printed on top of each other and abstracted. Each sheet is unique.
