Kammerakademie Potsdam, RIAS-Kammerchor
In 1821, Carl Maria von Weber's German-language opera ‘Der Freischütz’ made its debut at the Königliches Schauspielhaus Berlin. It was the first time that German-language musical theatre had graced the European stage, and it was a huge success, establishing the genre of ‘German opera’. Over 100 years later, the Kammerakademie Potsdam, under the direction of its principal conductor and artistic director Antonello Manacorda, will come together with world-famous soloists such as Golda Schultz and Charles Castronovo for a concert performance of the opera. This brilliant performance will be supported by the RIAS Chamber Choir.
Together they stage the story of a desperate love in the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War, which culminates in a fateful pact with the devil. A gripping experience of musical history, whose beauty of sound beguiles all the senses.
Carl Maria von Weber's romantic opera ‘Der Freischütz’ whisks you away to a forest realm of ghosts, fairytales and dark forces.
