Ute Cohen
A glamorous start to the new reading year. THE BOOKSOIREE is delighted to present the author Ute Cohen with her new book ‘GLAMOUR - Das Wagnis, sich kunstvoll zu inszenieren’ on 3 April 2025.
But that's not all. Style icon Britt Kanja will be joining the author on stage at the Orangerie to make the sparkling side of life shine even brighter.
Glamour is created where beauty and elegance are staged in public and reflected in the admiring glances of the audience. Opulent and yet precarious, completely present and yet barely approachable, the glamorous appearance is created especially for the moment and yet lasts forever.
Glamour had its heyday in the first half of the 20th century, when the aura of screen stars was able to cast a spell over cinema audiences. It needs the limelight, requires stubbornness and a willingness to take risks, is a lavish desire for self-dramatisation. Glamour unfolds its effect almost like a shock, takes your breath away, leaves you speechless. Those who encounter it leave the lowlands of everyday life.
Although today we are almost exclusively surrounded by aesthetic dreariness in public spaces, the desire for such glamorous appearances seems to be tentatively reviving. In any case, Ute Cohen recognises encouraging signs in our present that glamour has not lost its compelling radiance.
