George Cables is one of the greatest pianists in the history of modern jazz. Since the 1960s, he has shaped the music with his intense playing and is mentioned in the same breath as names like Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and Kenny Barron.

Together with his long-time musical partner, Piero Odorici, probably the most internationally renowned Italian jazz saxophonist, Cables is back on the international stage to celebrate his 80th birthday.

The club is extremely pleased to be able to present this memorable evening with one of the great heroes of the hard bop era to the audience.

George Cables received a classical piano education, but quickly turned to jazz and played with Billy Cobham, Lenny White and others at a young age, who took their first steps into the jazz world with him. In 1969, he was briefly a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

During this time, he made a name for himself in the top league of jazz musicians and played in some groundbreaking ensembles and with some of the greatest visionaries in the world of jazz, including Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon, Freddy Hubbard, Roy Haynes, Philly Joe Jones, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Williams and many more, the list goes on and on. Cables himself names Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock and Wynton Kelly as his most important influences.

He has always impressed with his perfect bebop phrasing, his empathetic, almost romantic-sounding accompaniment and the well-dosed pinch of funk and energy that make his playing unique and unmistakable.

Piero Odorici began taking saxophone lessons at the age of ten. After his classical studies, he became interested in jazz music and studied with Sal Nistico and Steve Grossman. He began his artistic career as a leader and sideman of various Italian and international ensembles and toured the world.

During his artistic career, he has worked with world-famous musicians such as Cedar Walton, George Cables, Eumir Deodato, Curtis Fuller, Cyrus Chestnut, Billy Higgins, Slide Hampton, Eddie Henderson, Ben Riley, Jimmy Cobb, Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Steve Lacy, Billy Hart, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Peter Bernstein and many more, and has also played with pop giants such as George Michael, Grace Jones and Gloria Gaynor.

Josh Ginsburg is a fixture on concert stages and in jazz clubs around the world. His most recent album as a leader, "Zembla Variations", was named Album of the Year by the New York City Jazz Record. A New York musician from the beginning, he has performed regularly with many influential musicians and has toured internationally with bands led by Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Friedman, Jeremy Pelt, E.J. Strickland, George Colligan, Jure Pukl, Logan Richardson, Diego Piñera, Tino Derado and Aruán Ortiz.

Jonathan Barber is an up-and-coming drummer from the United States. Born in Hartford in 1990, he has been playing the drums since he was five years old and is now an active and valued member of the New York jazz scene. He has worked with Kurt Elling, Kenny Barron, Jeremy Pelt, Erykah Badu and John Patitucci and combines aspects of jazz, gospel, soul and rock in his own music.
