With almost 100 gas lanterns - originals and replicas - from 36 German and European cities, it is now the most extensive collection of its kind in Europe. The oldest lamp is from 1826. Some of them have very peculiar names like "Wilmersdorf Widow" or "Bullenbein". As early as 1847, a separate gas works was built in Berlin for the 2,055 gas lamps for public street lighting. The gas lanterns are silent witnesses of Berlin's eventful history.
