tanzmainz / Felix Berner | guest performance as part of AUGENBLICK MAL! The Festival of Theatre for Young Audiences
Groups, movements, or trends – almost everyone is a follower, whether consciously or not. But why do people follow people, trends, fashion, or simply the beat of music? Why do they imitate and copy what inspires and excites them? Is it an attempt to define themselves through belonging and gain orientation? And at what point does a shared movement actually become peer pressure?
Based on their personal experiences, choreographer Felix Berner and six tanzmainz dancers embarked on a search for clues around the topic of following in both the analog and digital world.
In this interview, Berner explains how he translates this phenomenon into multifaceted dance:
"Being a follower can fundamentally have both positive and negative aspects," says Felix Berner. "In terms of the team, it's often beneficial for me as a choreographer to follow and work with the exciting ideas of my colleagues in the rehearsal studio. However, if a company is filled with indifferent people who simply follow and a few set the tone, you quickly end up being a follower. So it's a double-edged sword."
