Alexander Kulpok presents another chapter of contemporary history: “Flashback: start of broadcasting by the SFB”.  70 years ago, on June 1, 1954, the station Freies Berlin (SFB) went on the air. The radio pioneer Alfred Braun, the first SFB director despite his Nazi involvement, opened the station early at 5 a.m. Alexander Kulpok was there from the start.

In June 1954, while still a student, he appeared in his first broadcast on SFB youth radio and later worked as a reporter, editor and in managerial positions at SFB, ARD and ZDF. With numerous audio examples, he reports on the beginnings of the SFB in the year when the Federal Republic became soccer world champions.
