"Feinschnitt Barcelona" (2025) is the first publication of the newly founded Franken Verlag and, at the same time, the first opportunity to discover the Catalan author Adrià Pujol Cruells in the German-speaking world. In his anthropological and autobiographical essay, the readers learn about the author's ambivalent relationship with his adopted home of Barcelona.

With great wit, Adrià Pujol Cruells writes a diatribe about the city that could only be due to the alienation of a small-town dweller who has found himself in the big city – motivated by the question: How much of what tourism marketing says about Barcelona is actually true? Spoiler alert: Not much.
This evening, Matthias Friedrich will read excerpts from his translation and discuss his book with Adrià Pujol Cruells. Publisher Lucas Franken will moderate and interpret.
