Extended Cooperation Vol. I

At the Ballhaus Naunynstraße, around 40 theater professionals of color and Black artists came together to think about theater, experiment, and produce in two groups.

Input providers such as director, author, and lecturer Adewale Teodros Adebisi, lighting designer Emilio Cordero Checa, sound designer Sky Deep, opera singer, actor, and director Nino Sandow, set and costume designer Sarah Seini, and dramaturg Jasco Viefhues shared their knowledge. Texts were written, productions dreamed up, acting constellations tested, many things discarded, new things tried, and now: Showing! They share what they have with the audience!

At a time when social hierarchies and exclusions are being politically pursued and implemented with renewed violence, this workshop is a necessity: It is important to come together and jointly design, work, and create, and find our own rhythms for our bodies, speech, and self-assertion.

In 2023, the Ballhaus Naunynstraße was honored with the main prize of the Federal Theater Prize: as the birthplace of post-migrant theater and—according to the jury's statement—because the Ballhaus Naunynstraße, as a "singular framework," enables new practices of theatermaking.

The prize money was used to realize this workshop, Extended Cooperation Vol. I and Vol. II.
