As if seduced by a dream - a romantic and cheerful spring concert

The choir, founded in 1852 and one of the oldest singing societies in Germany, was named after its namesake Ludwig Christian Erk.

Ludwig Christian Erk (1807-1883) was an important collector and preserver of German folk songs, much like the Brothers Grimm collected fairy tales. He collected around 20,000 folk songs, many of which had a mixed sound, which was also what his choir aimed for.

Since its founding, the choir has been led by eight conductors. Despite the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, which cost the choir half its members overnight, it was able to continue to exist.

Today the choir has 55 active members who devote themselves to both traditional folk songs and sophisticated works of choral music, from oratorios to modern musicals.

The choir, known as the ERK, is based in Neukölln, in the Albrecht Dürer High School. In honor of the founder, there is even a street in the Neukölln district that bears his name.
