A performative installation by Krux Kollektiv

The performative installation "A person is not a torch" brings together voices from real self-immolations and opens a discourse on the (in)visibility of people in political systems. With great sensitivity, Krux reflects on this form of protest, on the body as a political issue, the blurred boundaries between the private and the political, and the desire to bring about change in society.

In 1963, the monk Thích Quàng Dúnc publicly set himself on fire to protest against the discrimination of Buddhists in South Vietnam. Since then, at least 3,000 people worldwide have burned themselves to death in public places in protest, hoping to make their political demands public.

"Given that our peoples are on the brink of hopelessness, I have decided to express my protest. My demand is:

... equal rights for foreigners (Semra Ertan, 1982)

... an end to the war (Malachi Ritscher, 2006)

... the Compliance with internationally recognized human rights standards (Sangye Dolma, 2012)

... the equality of women (Sahar Khodayari, 2019)"
