While Prenzlauer Berg unfolded around it as a gentrified capital bubble, the fragile charm of the post-reunification era lived on undisturbed in Kastanienallee 12, also known as K12.

Together with Selbstbau e.G. and the Edith Maryon Foundation, the three rear buildings and courtyards were successfully preserved by the existing building community. An innovative energy concept is now also required as part of the refurbishment.
