bastille musique presents

At Trio Catch’s Earcracker concerts, ears are being opened and new
sounds can be heard. At the centre of each concert is a work that is
played twice and then examined in more detail in exchange with the
audience. Everything can, nothing must: no age restrictions, no fear of
contact, no need for prior musical knowledge. The event lasts one hour
and the bar is open for coffee and cake before and after the concert.

Free admission, advance booking recommended.

This time the Austrian composer Matthias Kranebitter is taking part with his new piece »whirl and pendulum« which was premiered by Trio Catch at the Elbphilharmonie.

Matthias Kranebitter: »whirl and pendulum« (2021)

One piece, two movement patterns, three musicians.
Chaotic vortices, tumbling masses of sound, rolling currents;
static pendulum, oscillating standstill, mechanical impulses;
acceleration and deceleration, organic growth and inorganic
inorganic cuts. A piece of music.

Catch! To catch the audience. The special profile of Trio Catch is characterised by the virtuosic unfolding of the very different timbres of clarinet, cello and piano and the constant search for a common, unmistakable sound. In the thirteen years of its existence, it has already worked with numerous composers, including Mark Andre, Georges Aperghis, Beat Furrer and Helmut Lachenmann, with whom it is also associated through various CD productions and radio recordings.

A busy concert schedule has taken Trio Catch all over Europe and to festivals such as Festival d'Automne à Paris, Contempuls Prague, Ultraschall Berlin, Musica Strasbourg, International Summer Courses for New Music Darmstadt, Klangspuren Schwaz and Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik. Following the CDs »in between« and »Sanh« on col legno, the album »As if« was released by bastille musique in 2019, which was honoured with the German Record Critics Award and the Coups de Coeur of the Academie Charles Cros, among others.

The trio won the Hermann and Milena Ebel Prize in Hamburg in 2012, the Berenberg Culture Prize in 2014 and the Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Prize in 2018. The trio is also active in music education and has held a teaching position at the Hamburg University of Music, giving workshops for students in the composition classes. In 2016, Trio Catch launched its own workshop concert series »Ohrknacker« (Earcracker), which has been held regularly in Hamburg and Berlin ever since.
