The Dream House Quartet, founded in 2018, modestly claims that it has the potential to permanently shift entrenched genre boundaries. The quartet effortlessly understands how to bring classical and contemporary music into completely new forms.

The members contribute their decades of musical expertise: The pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, known as piano luminaries, feel equally at home in classical music, minimal music, jazz and pop music. Opposite them are Grammy-winning guitarist, composer and founding member of The National, Bryce Dessner, and composer, musician and producer David Chalmin, also on guitar.

Together they deal with radical commissioned compositions from visionary composers and key contemporary works of the last half century.

They presented their first joint project, The Minimalist Dream House, in 2019. The premiere took place in the Paris Philharmonie, followed by a tour of Lyon, London and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, where Thom Yorke, singer of Radiohead, was there as a guest .

The second half of the project included the premiere of Yorke's composition "don't fear the light" as well as another new song called "gawpers". These pieces marked Yorke's first compositions for Katia & Marielle as well as for classical concert halls and once again underlined the importance that the four musicians enjoy in the scene.

The step from project to permanent band followed in 2023. In April, the Dream House Quartet's EP with works by David Chalmin, Meredith Monk and Bryce Dessner was released by Deutsche Grammophon.

The next tour is now scheduled for 2024, for the first time under the name Dream House Quartet. The program once again includes works by Meredith Monk, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, David Chalmin, Bryce Dessner, Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Thom Yorke.
