Suhrkamp Theater • von und mit Anne Jelena Schulte • Lesung: Rosa Lembeck, Sasha Rau, Marie Rosa Tietjen

Who was Antiope again? Antiope is not ancient, but present. She returns pregnant from the wild days of freedom to the house of patriarchy, puts her heavy legs on the desk in the Oval Office and wants to talk. Her father, the offended king, wants revenge, not to talk.

Anne Jelena Schulte invents Antiope as a dazzling, queer figure who attracts hatred and at the same time exerts a subtle fascination on those around her. The walls are raised, the perspectives are reduced, the foreign body is domesticated - without success. Antiope remains unique. The theater text describes a social and political dynamic that is highly topical in many democracies.

The play premiered in the 2023/24 season at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Now this radically poetic and political text is being published as a book, which the Berlin author Anne Jelena Schulte presents in a reading together with actors from the ensemble, with music, visuals and conversation.

This book premiere will be multi-voiced, poetic, painful and cheerful.
