But it's not just on television that Germans can smell the scent of the big, wide world. Neckermann makes it possible, and the white giant gives the housewife a helping hand. Klementine fiddles with washing machines and Tilly smoothes out every crease with Palmolive dishwashing liquid...


The teenagers only dream of the Beatles, dance Twist until their knees crack and seek advice and support from Bravo. Parents continue to work diligently on the economic miracle. You can build on these stones... And what's left of the West German upswing is sent to the East zone as a well-tied parcel.


Switch on the time machine with us and travel with us from the staid early 50s to flower power and Twiggy, the bourgeois shock in a miniskirt!

Do you still remember? The whole world was sensual, colourful and heart-warming, full of dabbed petticoats, kidney-shaped tables with bag lamps and home movies with a roaring stag. People conjured up the economic miracle in their first VW Beetle and danced the economic cha-cha. In the milk bar, the young girls dreamed of the ‘Sugar Baby’ Peter Kraus in the milk bar, and the youngsters in studded trousers dreamed of portable radios and motorbikes. Bill Ramsey advertised ‘souvenirs’ on the new television or invited the ‘sugar doll from the belly dancing troupe’ on a holiday to Bella Italia. Yes, yes - ‘Tschau Tschau Bambina’!

Back then, we managed the economic miracle and dreamed of the south. Today we fly to the south and and dream of the economic miracle. All this garnished with the wonderful hits of the time. Oh, you beautiful German Schlager bliss!
