Comedy with Dieter Hallervorden
‘The Dragon’ is a fairytale comedy by Yevgeny Schwarz, staged in German at the Schlosspark Theatre with Dieter Hallervorden.
A town has been ruled by a dragon for 400 years. The dragon demands high tributes from the inhabitants and the sacrifice of a young woman every year. The inhabitants have come to terms with this, because the murderous, arbitrary regime guarantees them stability and security.
This fairytale for everyone from 9 to 99, which the Russian author Yevgeny Schwarz wrote in 1943, is a political parable that was aimed at Hitler and Stalin at the time, and which today brings to mind many heads of state. Last but not least, the question arises as to how much of the dragon there is in each and every one of us. Fortunately, with music and song!
The play had its legendary premiere in Berlin in 1965, directed by Benno Besson at the Deutsches Theater. It's high time for a reunion.
