10 years of Mantay-Peru e.V. Berlin

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the non-profit association Mantay-Peru e.V., the exhibition "DAR ESPERANZA, Hope for Young Mothers" is being presented again in Berlin.

The photo project, initiated by Karin and Hans-Dieter Brand, serves to focus on the social commitment and work being done in Cusco, Peru. This work has been intensively supported by Mantay-Peru e.V., based in Berlin, for 10 years.

Over a period of 10 days, the Brand couple accompanied the lives of the young mothers and their children at CASA MANTAY. Hans-Dieter Brand, a long-time hobby photographer, was active behind the camera, while Karin Brand primarily built connections with the protagonists next to the camera.

During a visit by Karin and Hans-Dieter Brand to the CASA MANTAY in Cusco, Peru, the idea of supporting this social institution came about. CASA MANTAY is a facility for underage mothers who, almost without exception, have been victims of abuse and accompany their children. The facility offers these needy women a temporary home and teaches them the skills they need to live independently in the future. The management of the house is largely financed by private donations.

With this project, Karin and Hans-Dieter Brand want to promote and support social engagement in Latin America. At the same time, they would like to draw attention to the special work of the non-profit association Mantay-Peru e.V., which supports local education, training and integration measures for young mothers.
