Performance lab by Rocío Marano
Rocío Marano’s new performance "AirtaM", a continuation of her previous work "Matria", dives into bodily metamorphosis – powered by the stomping rhythms of Malambo, a traditional Argentine dance reserved exclusively for men, and the spirit of the Gauchopunk genre, a term coined by writer Michel Nieva that fuses science fiction, Argentine literature, and cyberpunk.
In this funky mashup of past and future, the organic and the artificial, the body mutates and challenges notions of identity, gender, beauty, and representation. Through rhythmic and visual dissociation, "AirtaM" invites the audience to reconsider how we see and experience the world – beyond our habitual obsession with the visual.
The performance is part of a practice-based research project funded by the 2024/2025 Tanzpraxis Fellowship.
