The project Let's Play Majerus G3 offers a unique insight into the digital working processes of Michel Majerus and shows how closely art, technology and archiving are interwoven in the digital age.
At the centre of the Let's Play Majerus G3 project is a Macintosh PowerBook G3 that the artist Michel Majerus used until 2002. On the initiative of Cory Arcangel and in collaboration with Rhizome, the laptop was reactivated through emulation. Arcangel provides insights into Majerus' digital studio in Let's Play videos on YouTube and in an exhibition.
The computer shows how Majerus used digital technologies to conceive, communicate, and archive his work.
Majerus and Arcangel are united by an interest in the aesthetics of the digital and the creative potential of new technologies. Arcangel's work reflects on the temporality of technological aesthetics and examines digital formats such as computer games and Instagram feeds.
Let's Play Majerus G3 can be seen online and in the exhibition and illustrates the merging of analogue and digital practices. The emulation of the laptop complements the Majerus archive and offers new perspectives on his work.
