Royal weddings were welcome occasions for extensive firework displays. The bride and groom were often mythologically elevated and a story was told that intertwined the political present and past narratives.

But it was not just marriages, but also other love affairs that gave rise to courtly celebrations that culminated in opulent fireworks - especially in Versailles. The "Close Up!" evening looks at amorous relationships that are reported in numerous copperplate engravings.

In addition to the works in the exhibition, other copperplate engravings from the collection will be presented on this evening only. Symbols, advertising and media coverage of courtly fire theater can be discussed "Close Up!".
