Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck" for the pop music generation
With her "classic in the box" series, Bridge Markland is devoting herself to the classics of German theater literature. Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck" remained unfinished due to his early death and only exists as a fragment.
The scenes are neither numbered nor divided into acts and are staged in this version as a visually powerful, performative theater piece with puppets. The music takes on a key dramaturgical role, as the song lyrics underline and describe the respective psychological states and characteristics of the characters.
In her "classic in the box" series, Bridge Markland juggles with faithful lines of text and pop music quotes, thereby casually undermining established role assignments. She switches rapidly between performance, puppetry and playback of well-known pop songs and film music classics, dusting off the classic material.
