An enchanted, timeless place in the middle of the noise of the big city, this is how visitors can experience the Georgen-Parochial Cemetery on Greifswalder Strasse. This was the first burial place of the Georgen congregation outside the former city walls, where there had previously been vineyards.

From magnificent houses for the dead to anonymous urn burials, this place shows the change in burial culture from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day.

Nature had largely reclaimed the cemetery after it was closed down by the East Berlin magistrate in 1970. Burials have been taking place here again since 1991.

Reports are given on Berlin personalities who were buried here in mostly elaborate, picturesque resting places, as well as on current attempts to use the cemetery grounds for alternative purposes.

After the tour, you can visit the small café "Nonna" right next to the cemetery entrance.
