French Swing Jazz

Jazz singer Susanna Bartilla and jazz violinist Hanna Bienert celebrate the great French artists of the 30s to 50s with fresh arrangements.

Susanna and Hanna met 15 years ago in the Latin Quarter in Paris and soon realized that they had a lot in common, including their home in Berlin.

The many years spent in France left deep traces and cultural impressions on both musicians, which they now present to German audiences as Bons Baisers de Paris (Greetings from Paris), accompanied by the well-known Berlin musicians Romani Weiss on guitar and Martin Lillich on double bass.

The irresistible repertoire from the heyday of French Swing Jazz, swinging chansons from the 30s to the 50s in a fresh guise, from the Riviera to the Rive Gauche, celebrates the great French singers and composers, from Charles Trénet to Yves Montand to Aznavour, gives the timeless melodies from the heyday of French Swing a rejuvenating treatment and gives them a fresh kick that makes them really shimmer in a new light.

In a modern guise, stripped of kitsch and completely without accordion, these swinging chansons shine like freshly cut diamonds, as seductive as a barefoot Bardot in a striped shirt on the beach in Saint Tropez, as relaxed as a Maurice Chevalier in a straw hat, as mysterious as Juliette Gréco in an existentialist Parisian jazz cellar.

From the Riviera to the Rive Gauche, there is plenty of joie de vivre and a little bit of melancholy in the program, conjuring up an atmosphere that simply makes you happy.
