The singer-songwriter defined the ideals, fears and moods of generations with his songs.
The poetry of his lyrics and the lyricism of his songs gave him literary quality, his keen powers of observation and his political understanding made him the natural mouthpiece of the youth, whose awakening he helped initiate and accompany in the 1960s.
Bob Dylan is the only musician to date to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature for his musical work. He has received numerous Grammy awards, including for his life's work.
His songs include hits such as "The Times They are A-Changin' ", "Blowin' in the Wind", "Like a Rolling Stone", "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall", "Chimes of Freedom" - to name just a few. His albums have sold more than 110 million copies.
Dylan constantly reinvented himself, changed, changed direction, disappeared, and then rose again like a meteor.
