A guided tour for the 100th birthday
Hildegard Knef very much alive in Berlin: Berliners affectionately called her "our Hildchen". Hildegard Knef, the first nude actress in German film, the "greatest singer without a voice" and bestselling author of several books.
Knef is one of the most remarkable personalities in Berlin. The ups and downs of her career, the highs and lows in her private life have always made her strong for life and survival.
The participants of this tour follow in the footsteps of Hildegard Knef. Around the Memorial Church, where the funeral took place in February 2002, they look for places that remind us of her life and work. Such as cinemas, theaters and a well-known hotel, which became the stage for fateful events for her. A fortune teller nearby was one of her most important addresses.
This tour brings to life important stages of the versatile artist.
Starting point: Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Then to the "Zoo-Palast" and other former cinemas on Kurfürstendamm and the former "Hotel Kempinski".
As part of this second Knef tour, there is also a stop at the ‘Theater des Westens’ to commemorate her successful performances there.
In addition to the stories from times gone by, it is also her thoughts and texts that have not lost their relevance.
- Meeting point: main entrance to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Breitscheidplatz
- Speakers: Günter Leitner, a contemporary historian, city guide and funeral orator, and Dieter Bornemann, a journalist and curator who knew the artist personally and was described by her as a ‘loyal companion throughout her life’.
