My disgust is a privilege - a series of events
They are bringing GDR action art back to where it could never take place! Under the motto "My disgust is action", the second event in the Ekel series is dedicated to the radical power of disgust in the GDR performance art of the 1980s.
The focus is on artists such as Gabriele Stötzer, Else Gabriel, Yana Milev and Gundula Schulze Eldowy, who worked against standardized socialist realism with "disgusting" materials, body images and offbeat themes.
In a walk-in performance spectacle, House 22 on the site of the former Stasi headquarters - once a place of control - becomes a stage:
performances, re-enactments and scenic installations open up historical and contemporary perspectives on the body, norms, resistance and memory on two floors.
A special feature of the program is the live performance by Gabriele Stötzer and her team, who will present a reenactment of one of their actions from the GDR era.
The event sees itself as a reclaiming of a place of fear, as an empowering overwriting through art - and as an invitation to rethink disgust as an artistic means of expression and signature.
Additional program:
