BARYL is a Danish band led by the award-winning vibraphonist Viktoria Søndergaard. Despite her young age, she has quickly made a name for herself on the Danish jazz scene and has been honored with prestigious awards. Viktoria has worked with some of Denmark's greatest jazz icons and ensembles and has been at the helm of the band BARYL since 2021.

BARYL has played as support for Annisette (Savage Rose) and performed together with the renowned Danmarks Radio Big Band. BARYL has released two critically acclaimed albums with, among others, trumpeter Jakob Buchanan and drummer and percussionist Marilyn Mazur. The latter is probably Denmark's most important living jazz musician thanks to her collaboration with greats such as Miles Davis. In 2022, BARYL won the “Jazz Konkurrencen” prize from the Danish jazz industry association JazzDanmark.

BARYL is a band that captures the zeitgeist in its sound in a unique way. Their music is universal, sensitive and modern jazz, where the five musicians interact fearlessly with each other with playful ease and unsurpassed technique. They explore the contrasts between strict compositions and completely free collective improvisations, twisting jazz, its past and preconceptions in such a way that it appears in a completely new that shines with musical richness.

The national Danish newspaper Politiken wrote in 2022: “In a few years, the BARYL members could become one of the country's most sought-after groups. They are certainly laying the foundations for something big.” In May 2023, BARYL released the album “hvad' fand sker der? (what the hell is going on here?)”, about which the Danish newspaper Dagbladet Information wrote: ”Although the band name BARYL (Danish for troublemaker) suggests unrest, BARYL only plays the most pleasant pieces. The music is enigmatic and ambitious without ever seeming silly or vain.”
